About Holy #Tuesday
Passion Tuesday is known as Question Day in the Christian Orthodox faith.
Why is it called 'Question day'?
The scribes and Pharisees asked Jesus by whose authority he taught and performed miracles and drove out merchants from the temple on Monday. They questioned the King who was not appointed by them, the one who stretched out the heavens in His wisdom, who established the earth on the waters, whose throne was in heaven and whose footstool was the earth. Jesus responded by asking them where John the Baptist's baptismal authority came from, whether it was from heaven or from human origin. If they answered that it was from heaven, he asked them why they did not believe him. If they said it was from human origin, the people considered John to be a prophet so they were scared of the people. Hence they refused to answer His question. Their motive for asking this question was not because their hearts were full of faith, but because they doubted Jesus and were envious of him. The miracles Jesus performed were great, and His kingdom is an everlasting kingdom. His dominion is from generation to generation, as we learn from Daniel 4:3.
Jesus said to them, "Truly I tell you, the tax collectors and the prostitutes are entering the kingdom of God ahead of you." (Matthew 21:28) On this day, because He taught a long lesson in the temple, it is called "the day of teaching." He taught that those who have strayed from religion and those who have separated from the love of God should be taught and counseled.
May God keep us from doubt and lack of understanding. May He give us a God-fearing heart so we can bear fruit and inherit His kingdom.
