👉🏾“The commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes” (Psalm 19:8).
✍🏾Therefore, the lights in the Holy Liturgy are not mere customs or decorations, but sacred symbols filled with divine meaning. They proclaim the presence of God, who is Light without darkness, and reveal the work of the Holy Spirit in the Church. The burning lamps remind us of Christ, the Light of the world, of His life-giving Word, and of the saints and martyrs who shone through faith and obedience.
✍🏾By filling the church with light, the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church teaches her children to walk in spiritual vigilance, purity, and righteousness.
May the name of the Holy God be praised forever and ever in every tongue that He has created, today and always.
May the blessings of God's mother, the virgin, and the cross be upon us.
Amen.
