✍🏾Thus, we are born again of water and the Holy Spirit from the sanctified womb of the Jordan, receiving adoption as children of God, according to the sonship first given to Adam and Eve by the Holy Trinity (cf. Galatians 4:4).
✍🏾We are baptized in the name of the Holy Trinity, as commanded by our Lord:
👉🏾“Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.” (Matthew 28:19)
✍🏾 Today, the Ark is symbolically brought down to the waters, and all Christians who celebrate the Feast of the Baptism are instructed by Scripture to follow the Ark from a distance of two thousand cubits:
✍🏾“When you see the ark of the covenant of the Lord your God, carried by the Levitical priests, then you shall set out from your place and follow it. Yet there shall be a distance between you and it, about two thousand cubits… for you have not passed this way before.”(Joshua 3:3–4)
This powerful forms the foundational lesson for the descent of the Ark into the waters of baptism, just as the Ark entered the Jordan River. It teaches believers to follow Christ with reverence as He leads us through the waters into new life.
✍🏾The Feast of the Baptism of our Lord Jesus Christ is celebrated every year on Tir 11 according to the Ethiopian calendar , and it will continue to be celebrated from the time of our Lord’s baptism until the end of the world, in accordance with the historical, spiritual, and liturgical tradition of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church.
May the name of the Holy God be praised forever and ever in every tongue that He has created, today and always.
May the blessings of God's mother, the virgin, and the cross be upon us.
Amen.
