๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿพ๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿพ๐Ÿ‘‰๐ŸพDoes #Listening to a Recorded Holy #Liturgy Replace #Participation in the Church? (Part 5) Dear followers of the Orthodox teachings on John's Repentance website .we greet you with the peace of the Lord. Today, based on the topic mentioned above, we present to you the following important lesson. We encourage everyone to read it carefully and learn from it. ๐Ÿ‘‰๐ŸพThe Holy Liturgy and the Use of Recorded Media One of the sacred rites of the Church is the Holy Liturgy. The purpose of the Holy Liturgy is one: to offer the Holy Body and Precious Blood of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ to the faithful. According to the teachings of the Holy Fathers, the Holy Liturgy is a public and communal act of worship, not a private practice. ๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿพ When the Holy Eucharist is celebrated , the Kidan and Mahlet are offered during the Holy Liturgy, the faithful who participate receive grace and blessing. ๐Ÿ‘‰๐ŸพLikewise, when the priests lead the Prayer of the Seatat, the faithful who participate receive a blessing for both body and soul Since the Holy Liturgy is a public prayer service, the priests and the faithful are seen walking around the church to receive the Eucharist, facing one another, and the Holy Liturgy is celebrated with the participation of both the priests and the faithful. โœ๐Ÿพ With the wisdom of technology, it is possible to listen to mezmur and to the Holy Liturgy. We can not only listen to what is recorded, but also learn from it. ๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿพ Many beneficial developments that reduce fatigue are taking place through technology. One of these is sound recording, which provides great service in preserving memories of the past, songs, Holy Liturgies, teachings, and the advice of the Fathers. These are prepared in audio and video formats on cassettes and CDs, and we can also use them for learning. However, it is not possible to consecrate the Church's Holy Liturgy at home using a cassette tape. โœ๐Ÿพ We hear that people living in the Gentile world used to gather in a prayer house and attempt to follow the Holy Liturgy on tape. These believers would leave their gathering place, stand on the street, and listen to the priest on the recording as he said, โ€œGo to your homes in peace.โ€ After hearing this, they would then return to their homes. God saw their good intentions and helped the priests to consecrate and sanctify them, and as a result, churches were built for them. . โœ๐Ÿพ The sacrifices offered by the Old Testament priests were a model for the New Testament (faithful) sacrifice, so the faithful were not blamed for attempting this out of sincere desire to participate in the Holy Liturgy despite their difficulties. However, the effort they made standing on the road rather than in their homes is encouraging. It is bold for some to claim that they were blessed merely by quietly listening to the Holy Liturgy. ๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿพ The Church does not have a technological Holy Liturgy, and the Holy Liturgy cannot be replaced by recordings in any way. Today, it is rare to find a place where a Church is not built, but participation in the Holy Liturgy still requires presence in the Church. ๐Ÿ‘‰๐ŸพTherefore, the Holy Liturgy must be celebrated in the presence of the Church. โœ๐ŸพThe Holy Liturgy is celebrated only in a sacred place. This means it must take place in a consecrated church where the Tabot (Ark) is present, where ordained priests serve, where incense is offered, and where liturgical blessings are performed according to the tradition of the Church. โœ๐ŸพDuring the Holy Liturgy, incense is offered, candles are lit, and offerings are presented. These are not optional practices or decorations. They are essential elements of the liturgical service. It is not possible to celebrate the Holy Liturgy without them. If these sacred elements are absent, the service cannot be considered the Holy Liturgy of the Church. โœ๐ŸพThe Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church celebrates the Holy Liturgy while faithfully preserving its creed, dogma, apostolic faith, and sacred tradition, handed down from the Apostles and safeguarded by the Holy Fathers.
