Continued 👇🏾 ✍🏾Birhane Alam, Saint Paul, in his letter to the Philippians, teaches that sharing in Christ’s suffering is a sign of our salvation. He says: ✍🏾“Only let your conduct be worthy of the gospel of Christ, so that whether I come and see you or am absent, I may hear of your affairs, that you stand fast in one spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel, and not in any way terrified by your adversaries, which is to them a proof of destruction, but to you of salvation, and that from God. For to you it has been granted on behalf of Christ, not only to believe in Him, but also to suffer for His sake, having the same conflict which you saw in me and now hear is in me.” (Philippians 1:27–30) Saint John Afework also teaches that sharing in Christ’s suffering is a sign of salvation, saying: 👉🏾“Do not desire a time when there is no suffering, for you will gain nothing.” A Christian gains eternal life by sharing in the sufferings of Christ. Saint Yared Mahletay says: “He adorned the heavens with stars; He adorned the earth with flowers; He adorned the Church with the blood of His martyrs.” ✍🏾The martyrs, who shared in the sufferings of Christ and bore witness to Him, are the true ornaments of the Church. Therefore, we too are called to share in the sufferings of Christ, and not merely to recount or listen to the accounts of the martyrs’ deaths. ✍🏾Saint Yared teaches us that although the deaths of the martyrs adorn the Church, their lives and endurance are given to us as an example to follow. ✍🏾The martyrs, by sharing in the sufferings of Christ, conquered the world just as Christ Himself conquered the world. The venerable Abba Hiryakos says: ✍🏾"May God grant us to be partakers of the sufferings of Christ and to be added to the company of martyrs, as well as to the company of the holy prophets, the apostles, the blessed martyrs, the righteous, the ordained priests, the diligent angels, and the perfect virgins, as the Lord teaches "(Qəddase Maryam, No. 159). 👉🏾 Our Lord also says: “Truly, truly, I say to you, a servant is not greater than his master, nor a messenger greater than the one who sent him. If you know these things, blessed are you if you do them.”(John 13:16–17) part 45 Continues ...
