The Five #Pillar #Mysteries
(Part 11)
5. Mystery of Resurrection of (from) the dead
Resurrection refers to the re-uniting of soul and body at the end of ages. It is the return of all the dead in to life at the end of the world. It marks the start of eternal ‘life’ after the second coming of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Resurrection also denotes the final removal of the consequences of Adam’s sin (human disobedience). This mystery represents all what is at stake in our spiritual journey on earth. We believe in the authentic apostolic Gospel to be genuine candidates of the Kingdom of God, which would be revealed at the end of the ages. We take part in sacramental rituals implementing two among the five pillars of mysteries (Mystery of Baptism and Mystery of Holy Eucharist) for the same reason. The essence of Christianity is the life we have after death. We don’t dare to sacrifice our everlasting life in heaven for “a moment of happiness” on earth which transgresses God’s commandments. We believe and proclaim that all the dead humans will rise up for glory or demise. We believe the way we do and perform good deeds to be genuine candidates of God’s grace for a glorious resurrection.
So, when a person dies, he faces two opportunities of places where he lives with soul, and we decide one of the two when we are still alive before we die. This means that if we do righteous deeds, we will go to paradise. If we sin, we go to hell. So first, until the second coming, if a person is a sinner, his soul will go to hell, and if his deeds are good, he will go to paradise. After the second coming, the soul of the righteous will be sent to the kingdom of heaven, and the soul of the sinner will be sent to the fire of hell.
The second coming of Jesus Christ will be as lightning as it’s said: “For as lightning that comes from the east is visible even in the west, so will be the coming of the Son of Man.” (Matthew 24:27). He will be seen with great power and authority: “They will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of the sky, with power and great glory” (Matthew 24:30-31). “For the Son of Man is going to come in his Father’s glory with his angels, and then he will reward each person according to what he has done” ((Matthew 16:27 Luke 17:28-30 Luke 21:34-36 Matthew 25:1-12 Luke 12:37-38 John 14:1-3 Luke 12:40 Mark 8:38).
The lord said “For as the lightening cometh out of the east, and shines even unto the west; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.” (Mathew 24:27) Church scholars rightly note that the moment of our physical death on earth, even before judgement day, is our “final day”. We don’t have the chance to have the faith and deeds for salvation after departure. Hence, our final day is our judgement day and there is no point to speculate about the “final day of the world” while our final day comes without being noticed.
Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ was crucified and died to save the human race in order to bring us back to our original inheritance in heaven. Paradise is a place of temporary happiness where the righteous will stay.
About #Betrothal
Dear and respected members who follow the orthodox education and spiritual service that we convey on the John's Repentance website; Based on the title mentioned in above, we have sent you the following important lesson, so we entrust you to read and learn from it.
Betrothal/Engagement:- means choosing, preparing. Betrothal is a time of togetherness between the two couples before marriage, and it is a time of hope leading to marriage.
Engagement
Engagement is a journey of purpose, courtship, and preparation that you embark on together for a successful marriage life. This is a way for us to start with consent; and wait for the holy marriage and the blessings it will bring us to a great chapter of responsibility. Thus, since betrothal is not a permanent relationship or marriage, matters that happen after marriage should not be done during betrothal. Instead, it is a time to gather our scattered conscience and help each other with a holy purpose.
Things To Do during Engagement
- Religious Unity: Since religion is the primary issue in the life of a Christian betrothed; and most importantly, since marriage is a journey to salvation, religious unity should be the main selection criterion.
- Staying Virgin - Betrothal with virginity and virginity with betrothal have an inseparable basic combination. The Orthodox Church emphatically teaches that both men and women have a Christian responsibility to maintain chastity until the day of their marriage, and in other word, it is a sin to lose virginity before marriage.
- Pray - Praying and asking for God's will to be worthy of holy marriage
- Not extending the engagement period - Unless there is a special reason, it is preferable that it is not less than six months and not more than two years.
- Getting married in the church system : agreeing to perform their marriage in the church system based on one intention and purpose; Apart from this, if both or one of them are not on the same path, having different thoughts and objectives, their destination will be different. Besides, marriage is not a way of abandoning, but a path of righteousness where you walk together with each other and support each other. Moreover , the covenant of marriage is said to be valid when its basis is confirmed by the sacraments in the true Church order. it is the secret of coming to unity from duality. Otherwise, they will be called two, not one.
- Trust - If we face the interference and rumors of friends and third parties , instead of fighting, it is better to carefully investigate and openly discuss and come to a common position to save our relationship. The secret to a long marriage is tolerance and open communication.
- Courtship - that is, narrowing down the differences of opinion or thinking between them, bringing them to a common point of view, correcting if there are ethical deficiencies, and facilitating the conditions for filling religious deficiencies with the fathers of the Church.
- Economy - establishing the ability to overcome daily life mutually;
- Relative: Confirming that there is no marriage relationship and spiritual relationship between their close relatives
- Father of penitence: meeting the father of penitence regularly and being helped by education, advice and prayer.
