✍🏾Hope of the Prophets
According to the canon of feasts and spiritual order of the Church, the prophets lived in hope:
They desired to see the Savior,
To hear His word,To witness His works.
In the same spirit, we fast so that we may partake of their hope, behold His salvation, hear His word, and share in the blessing of His holy Nativity.
We rejoice in our God who has made us worthy to share in this joy, just as the angels praised Him saying:
“Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.”
✍🏾Duration of the Fast
✍🏾According to the tradition handed down by our holy fathers, the Fast of the Prophets was established as follows:
👉🏾The prophets fasted for forty (40) days in expectation of the Messiah.
👉🏾Abraham the Syrian fasted for three (3) days.
👉🏾Together with one day (Gehad tsom )additional sacred day, the total becomes forty-Fout (44) days of fasting before the Nativity.
✍🏾This fast is distinct from the Great Fast (Abiy Tsom / Hudade). Each fast has its own spiritual purpose and appointed time. The order of the Church is wisely established for the spiritual growth of all.
✍🏾May our Almighty God, who has granted us time for repentance and preserved us until this day, grant us forgiveness, compassion, and mercy, and make us worthy to inherit His eternal Kingdom, according to His great goodness.
May the name of the Holy God be praised forever and ever in every tongue that He has created, today and always.
May the blessings of God's mother, the virgin, and the cross be upon us.
Amen.
