✍🏾In The Second Coming of the Lord
The Holy Church teaches that on the Last Day, when our Lord comes in His majesty to judge the living and the dead, every human being will behold Him. Saint John the Evangelist describes this awe-inspiring moment in the Revelation:
“Behold, He is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see Him, even those who pierced Him; and all the tribes of the earth will wail because of Him.”
Revelation 1:7
Even those who crucified Him, long buried, will rise and see Him. the Prophet Hosea described the terror of the unrepentant on that day:
“They will say to the mountains, ‘Cover us,’ and to the hills, ‘Fall on us.’”Hosea 10:8
This is the fear of those who rejected God’s mercy. Scripture does not soften the reality. It tells us plainly:
“It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.”
Hebrews 10:31
When humanity stands before the throne of judgment, nothing will be hidden. All will see God, though not all will rejoice.
For the faithfuls , the Final Day is not terror but fulfillment. Saint Paul teaches the mystery of spiritual sight:
“The Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. And we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory.”
2 Corinthians 3:17-18
What the righteous taste now through the Holy Spirit, they will behold clearly after the Resurrection. Their vision is not fear but light. Their transformation begins now and completes then.
Our Lord Himself explained that in the age to come, the righteous will rise in purity and glory:
“They will be like the angels of God in heaven.”
Matthew 22:30
Those who lived in faith, repentance, and love will be filled with clarity, holiness, and the joy of the Kingdom forever. Their sight of God will be eternal praise, not judgment.
✍🏾Who Are the People to Whom God Has Revealed Himself?
The Church teaches that no human being has ever seen God in His divine essence, for the Godhead is invisible, incomprehensible, and beyond all created perception. Yet, in His love, God has revealed Himself to humanity in different ways.
Saint John declares:
“No one has ever seen God; the only Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, He has made Him known.”
(John 1:18)
The revelation of God is therefore known fully in the Incarnation, when the Son of God became man for our salvation.
✍🏾Christ Revealed God to Humanity
Through the Incarnation, our Lord Jesus Christ revealed the Father to us. The apostles, who walked with Him in purity of heart, received this grace.
Christ said to them:
“Blessed are your eyes, for they see, and your ears, for they hear.”
Matthew 13:16
And again:
“Blessed are the eyes that see what you see.”Luke 10:23
The apostles saw God in the flesh and heard His teachings directly. Through them, the revelation of God spread to the whole world.
✍🏾 God Revealed Himself to the Holy Prophets and Fathers
Throughout history, God revealed Himself in various ways to the righteous: through visions, dreams, angelic appearances, and divine encounters. These revelations, though not the direct sight of His divine essence, were real manifestations of His presence and will.
Below are examples.
