    As the Evangelist Luke Writes

a Pharisee Named Simon Invited Our Lord

Continued 👇🏾 ✍🏾As the Evangelist Luke writes, a Pharisee named Simon invited our Lord to eat with him. The Lord entered Simon’s house and reclined at the table. A woman from the city, known to be a sinner, heard that He was in the house. She brought an alabaster jar of perfume and stood behind Him at His feet. Overcome with sorrow, she wept, and her tears fell upon His feet. She washed His feet with her tears, wiped them with the hair of her head, kissed His feet continually, and anointed them with the perfume. When Simon saw this, he said within himself, “If this man were truly a prophet, He would know who and what kind of woman is touching Him, for she is a sinner.” Perceiving his thoughts, our Lord spoke and said, “Simon, I have something to tell you.” Simon replied, “Speak, Master.” Our Lord said, “A certain creditor had two debtors. One owed five hundred denarii, and the other fifty. When they had nothing to repay, he forgave them both. Which of them, then, will love him more?” Simon answered, “I suppose the one who was forgiven more.” The Lord said to him, “You have judged rightly.” Turning toward the woman, He said to Simon: “Do you see this woman? I entered your house; you gave Me no water for My feet, but she washed My feet with her tears and wiped them with her hair. You gave Me no greeting, but she has not ceased to kiss My feet from the moment I entered. You did not anoint My head with oil, but she has anointed My feet with perfume. Therefore I tell you: her many sins are forgiven, for she has loved much. But the one who is forgiven little loves little.” Then He said to the woman, “Your sins are forgiven. Your faith has saved you; go in peace.” In this holy event, the Lord teaches us to show mercy rather than judgment, to welcome the repentant, and to imitate His compassion toward every sinner who returns with a humble heart. Faithful Examples ✍🏾Saint Joseph the Righteous Joseph held great authority in the land of Egypt, yet he showed extraordinary mercy to his brothers who betrayed him, threw him into a pit, and sold him into slavery. He forgave them without recalling the years of suffering he endured because of their actions. Instead of seeking repayment or revenge, he provided them with grain during the famine so they would not die of hunger. He welcomed them and their families to live safely in Egypt and pardoned all the wrong they had done to him. (Genesis 50:21) ✍🏾The Great Prophet Moses Moses also stands as a model of mercy. He pleaded earnestly before God on behalf of the children of Israel, who repeatedly rebelled against Him. He bowed before the Lord and said: “Lord, if I have found favor in Your sight, let my Lord go among us, for we are a stiff-necked people. Forgive our wickedness and our sin, and accept us as Your inheritance.”(Exodus 34:9) Again, when the people committed the great sin of making the golden calf, Moses interceded for them with remarkable selflessness, saying: “O Lord, this people has committed a great sin and made for themselves gods of gold. Now forgive their sin; but if not, blot me out of the book You have written.” (Exodus 32:32) In both examples, Moses shows a shepherd’s heart, choosing mercy even when the people had deeply wounded both God and himself. Part 26 Continues ... May the name of the Holy God be praised forever and ever in every tongue that He has created, today and always. May the blessings of God's mother, the virgin, and the cross be upon us.
