👉🏾👉🏾👉🏾#Feast #of #Angels (Hidar 13) Dear followers of the Orthodox teaching we greet you with the peace of God. Today, according to the topic mentioned above, we present to you this important teaching, and we entrust you to read and learn from it: ✍🏾 “Are they not all ministering spirits, sent forth to serve those who will inherit salvation?” Heb. 1:14 ✍🏾 On this day, our Church Fathers instruct us to commemorate the Feast of the Holy Angels, celebrated on Hidar 13. ✍🏾 The Church celebrates this feast according to the order established by our Fathers, who were guided by the Holy Spirit. ✍🏾The Ministry of the Holy Angels The first and highest ministry of the holy angels is to praise the God who created them. In their unceasing worship they glorify, honor, and exalt Him, saying: “Holy, holy, holy, Lord of Spirits, your creation fills the earth.” Enoch 9:39; Isaiah 6:2-4. As it is written: “You are worthy, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for You created all things, and by Your will they existed and were created.” Revelation 4:11. The angels praise the God of gods, the Lord of lords, and the King of kings. 👉🏾Saint John the Evangelist also describes their worship: “I looked and heard the voice of many angels around the throne… and their number was myriads of myriads. They said with a loud voice, ‘Worthy is the Lamb who was slain, to receive power and riches and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and blessing.’ And every creature in heaven, on earth, under the earth, and in the sea said, ‘Blessing and honor and glory and might be to the One seated on the throne and to the Lamb forever and ever.’” Revelation 5:11-14. In addition to this divine ministry of praise and thanksgiving, the holy angels also serve as manifestations of the power, goodness, and mercy of their Creator toward His creation. Their ministry is especially revealed in their care for Adam and all his children throughout history. ✍🏾The Meaning of Their Names The names used for angels in Scripture and in the tradition of the Church all point to their identity as messengers and servants of God. Each term highlights a different aspect of their ministry. • (መላክ)Melak Means “to send.” The root shows their role as those who are sent by God. • (ላኪ )Laki Means “the one who is sent” or “the sender.” Example: “When the Jews sent to ask him…” John 1:19. • (ተልእከ) (Tel-e-k) Means “sent” or “one who serves.” Example: “She arose and served them.” Matthew 8:15. It shows the angelic role of carrying out God’s works. • Servant A general meaning, expressing their obedience and service to the will of the Creator. • (ልኡክ) Li-uk Means “sent, messenger, servant.” Example: “The messenger of our Lord…” 1 Peter 1:1. This emphasizes both being sent and being a servant. • “Emissary” Used in the Acts of the Apostles to describe one who is dispatched for a divine purpose. • (ላእከ) La-e-ke Means “messenger” or “servant.” Example: “They are messengers…” Romans 13:4. • Message This refers to a written message or letter, such as “The Epistle of the Apostle John.” 1 John 1:1. The word connects angels with the concept of delivering God’s message. • Angel According to Amharic grammar, “angel” means a messenger of God, a heavenly and divine being created to serve His will.
