👉🏽👉🏽👉🏽 #Angel #Saint #Michael (#Hidar 12) Dear followers of the Orthodox teachings we greet you with the peace of God. Today, based on the topic mentioned earlier, we present to you the following important teaching, and we entrust you all to read and learn from it: ✍🏾 The Meaning of the Name Michael The name Michael in Hebrew is composed of three parts: “Mi” meaning “Who”( ማን) “Ka” meaning “like”( እንደ) “El” meaning “God"( እግዚአብሔር ) When read together, it means “Who is like God?” This name expresses the humility and reverence of the archangel who proclaims that no being can be compared with God. ✍🏾His Place Among the Archangels Saint John the Evangelist testified in his vision, saying, “I saw the seven angels who stand before God.” Among these, God chose and appointed Saint Michael as the chief of the seven archangels. On Hidar 12, our Church celebrates the feast of this great angel with honor and splendor. When God cast Satan down because of his pride, Saint Michael was appointed in his place over the heavenly hosts, the ten cities and the hundred orders of angels. ✍🏾His Guardianship Over the People of God The authority of Saint Michael is not limited only to the angels, but also extends to the people of God. This truth is shown clearly in the Old Testament, where he is revealed as the protector of Israel, the chosen people of God. 👉🏾For example, Scripture tells us that Saint Michael appeared to Joshua near Jericho: “He lifted up his eyes and looked, and behold, a man stood before him with a drawn sword in his hand. Joshua went to him and said, ‘Are you for us or for our adversaries?’ And he said, ‘As the captain of the army of the Lord, I have now come.’”(Joshua 5:13) His Leadership in the Exodus When God delivered Israel from slavery in Egypt, Saint Michael was the angel appointed to lead them. Since his charge was over the people of God, he fought against the devil on their behalf and strengthened them through intercession. Yet when they sinned, God allowed punishment to fall on them, for the angel’s authority carried both protection and judgment. God warned them clearly: “Beware of him. Obey his voice; do not provoke him, for My name is in him.” (Exodus 23:21) ✍🏾Saint Gabriel’s Testimony This reveals why Saint Michael was placed over God’s people. And if the passages above are not enough to show that it was Saint Michael guiding Israel, the book of Daniel makes it unmistakable. Saint Gabriel told Daniel that Michael had been sent and held special authority over God’s people. Gabriel declared: “I will tell you what is written in the book of truth. There is none who stands with me in these matters except Michael your prince.” (Daniel 10:21) From this testimony, we understand that the angel who appeared to Joshua and who led the people of Israel was indeed Saint Michael. ✍🏾His Role Continues in the New Testament The role of Saint Michael continues in the New Testament, as the prophet said in his vision: “At that time Michael, the great prince who stands for the children of your people, will arise” (Dan. 12:1). Therefore, Saint Michael is also our leader, protecting us from the snares and traps of Satan and standing before God in prayer on our behalf. For we are the people of God and heirs of His inheritance. God appointed the prophet Moses as the leader of His people because he was exceedingly humble and loved them to the point of offering his own life for their sake (Num. 12:3; Ex. 32:32). His leadership was not for domination or control, but for redeeming the people through teaching, intercession, and guidance. This is why Saint Stephen testified, saying, “God sent him as ruler and redeemer” (Acts 7:35). In the same way, Saint Michael serves as a guardian and intercessor for God’s people. Continues 👇🏾
