✍🏾“They Shall Be Filled”
“Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be filled.” (Matthew 5:6)
Those who hunger and thirst for righteousness are truly blessed, for they have sought the right and the greatest thing the will of God and have labored earnestly to find it.
Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, while on the Cross, said,
“I thirst.” (John 19:28)
This thirst was not merely for water, but a divine expression of His holy desire for righteousness among humankind. Yet, the children of men had no righteous work to offer Him; instead, they gave Him vinegar a symbol of sin and corruption as the Psalmist prophesied:
“For my thirst they gave me vinegar to drink.” (Psalm 69:21)
✍🏾 This reveals that God thirsts for the righteous deeds of His children. He longs for their faithfulness, purity, and good works, and He rejoices when He finds righteousness dwelling within them.
✍🏾God Watches Over the Righteous
The Scripture declares:
“For the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show Himself strong on behalf of those whose heart is perfect toward Him.” (2 Chronicles 16:9)
✍🏾 God’s eyes are fixed upon the righteous. His servant David said:
“The eyes of the Lord are upon the righteous, and His ears are open to their cry.” (Psalm 34:15)
Thus, He not only sees their works but listens to their prayers with compassion.
The wise Solomon also wrote:
“The eyes of the Lord are in every place, beholding the evil and the good.” (Proverbs 15:3)
✍🏾 This means that God observes all people, but His favor rests especially upon those who sincerely seek truth and righteousness.
✍🏾The Testimony of Abba Hiriakos
Our holy father Abba Hiriakos, in the Eucharistic thanksgiving of the Blessed Virgin Mary, beautifully expressed this mystery, saying:
“God searched all the ends of the earth, and found none like you.
He loved your fragrance, He loved your blood, and sent His beloved Son to you.” (Holy Mary, verse 24)
This prayer reminds us that God continually seeks the fragrance of righteousness among His creation a life filled with faith, purity, and good works.
Part 17 Continues ...
May the name of the Holy God be praised forever and ever in every tongue that He has created, today and always.
May the blessings of God's mother, the virgin, and the cross be upon us.
Amen.
