✍🏾The Mission of Abba Yim’ata
After some time, Abba Yim’ata’s next divine calling was to spread the monastic life throughout Ethiopia. For this, the Nine Saints were led by the Holy Spirit to different regions:
👉🏾 Petelewon: in Tsoma’et
👉🏾 Gerima: in Medera
👉🏾 Likanos: in Konatsil
👉🏾 Aregawi: in Damo
👉🏾 Tsihma: in Tsediya
👉🏾 Others founded monasteries in various regions as the Holy Spirit directed them.
👉🏾Abba Yim’ata, under the divine guidance of the Holy Spirit, chose Geralta (in present-day Tigray) as his dwelling and place of ministry.
When Abba Yim’ata reached the place prepared by God, it is said that even a river parted before him. He built a holy monastery there and performed many miracles. Through his prayer and teaching, he made many disciples who continued his spiritual work.
The Monastery of Abune Yim’ata in Geralta remains one of the most remarkable and awe-inspiring places in Ethiopia. It stands high upon the mountains, reached only by great effort and courage. Yet, its beauty and sanctity reflect the unwavering faith and perseverance of our forefathers.
Abba Yim’ata lived a life of struggle and holiness in that monastery, and he peacefully rested in the Lord on Tikimt 28, the day of his commemoration.
✍🏾Conclusion
The life of Abba Yim’ata Tsadeq is a shining example of faith, humility, and steadfastness in the truth of the Tewahedo faith.
Through his prayers and the intercession of all the Nine Saints, may God strengthen our faith, guide our hearts toward holiness, and grant peace to our souls.
May the name of the Holy God be praised forever and ever in every tongue that He has created, today and always.
May the blessings of God's mother, the virgin, and the cross be upon us.
Amen.
