✍🏾God’s Mercy Toward the Repentant
God is faithful to accept the repentance of those who mourn and weep over their sins. He forgives, comforts, and grants mercy to those who turn to Him with contrite hearts. Even when we weep for the sins of others, God hears us and grants us the spirit of repentance.
✍🏾Examples from Holy Scripture
King David, called the man after God’s own heart, repented of his sins with sorrow and tears, and God forgave him and granted him mercy.
(2 Samuel 11–12)
Saint Peter wept bitterly after denying the Lord three times, yet his repentance was accepted. Later, he received the divine command to “Feed My sheep” and remained faithful even unto martyrdom in Rome.
(Luke 22:54–62; John 21:17)
(Mariam ente efret), ashamed and humbled, washed the feet of our Lord with her tears and hair. Through this act of repentance, all her sins were forgiven, and she received comfort and grace from God.
The Apostle Paul said,
“Blessed are those whose transgressions are forgiven, and whose sins are covered. Blessed is the man whose sin the Lord will not count against him” (Romans 4:7-8).
Similarly, the psalmist David proclaimed,
“Blessed is the man whose transgressions are forgiven, and whose sins are covered. Blessed is the man to whom the Lord will not count iniquity, and in whose spirit there is no deceit” (Psalm 32:1-2).
✍🏾Truly, the joy and blessing that come from the forgiveness of sins are immense. Our Lord Jesus Christ Himself said,
“There is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents” (Luke 15:7-10).
Repentance is not only a source of joy on earth but also a delight in heaven, among the angels.
✍🏾 Saint John, in the book of Revelation, describes the blessedness of those who repent and live a life of repentance:
“Blessed are those who wash their robes, that they may have the right to the tree of life and may enter through the gates into the city” (Revelation 22:14).
He also warns us to remain vigilant and pure, saying,
“Behold, I come as a thief. Blessed is he who stays awake and keeps his garments, so that he may not walk naked and that they may not see his shame” (Revelation 16:15).
And again, he reminds us of God’s ultimate promise:
“Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people, and God Himself shall be with them, and be their God. He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying, nor pain, for the former things have passed away”(Revelation 21:3-4).
Part 9 Continues ...
May the name of the Holy God be praised forever and ever in every tongue that He has created, today and always.
May the blessings of God's mother, the virgin, and the cross be upon us.
Amen.
