👉🏾👉🏾👉🏾The #Intercession of the Holy #Angels
(Part 14)
Beloved in Christ,As we reflect on the mysteries of God’s kingdom, we are reminded that the holy angels play a vital role in our spiritual lives. They are not distant beings but ministers sent by God to intercede on our behalf. Today, let us learn from the Scriptures how the angels intercede for God’s people, offering us comfort, guidance, and hope.
The Intercession of Angels: A Biblical Perspective
The intercession of angels is presented in a mysterious and symbolic way in the Bible. Here are some clear and explicit evidences from Scripture:
✍🏾 Reconciliation is a spiritual ministry.
The Bible says in 2 Corinthians 5:18:
"He has given us the ministry of reconciliation."
This shows that angels, like humans called to serve, are also ministers. The Scriptures explain this further:
👉🏾 “He makes his angels spirits, and his ministers a flame of fire” (Psalm 103:4).
Additionally, Hebrews 1:14 says:
👉🏾 “Are they not all ministering spirits sent to serve those who will inherit salvation?”
This demonstrates that angels act as ministers and mediators, particularly in spiritual matters such as reconciliation.
👉🏾 Incense symbolizes prayer.
Psalm 141:2 says:
"Let my prayer be set before you as incense."
Revelation 8:3 further illustrates this:
👉🏾 “Another angel came and stood at the altar, holding a golden censer; much incense was given to him, so that he might add it to the prayers of all the saints on the golden altar before the throne.”
From this verse, we understand that angels represent the prayers of the faithful. They carry our prayers to God, which is the very essence of intercession. In other words, an angel conveying our prayers to God shows us that angels act as intermediaries, presenting our petitions before Him.
The Intercession of Angels in the Babylonian Captivity
During the Israelites’ captivity in Babylon, the angel of the Lord made a clear plea on their behalf. This is recorded in the Scriptures:
👉🏾 “And the angel of the Lord answered and said, O Lord God of hosts, how long wilt thou not have mercy on Jerusalem and on the cities of Judah, with which thou hast had indignation these seventy years?” (Zechariah 1:12)
Here, the angel pleads for God’s mercy on His people.
👉🏾 “And the Lord answered the angel that talked with me with good and comforting words.” (Zechariah 1:13)
What does this “good and comforting word” mean? It points to mercy. The angel could not receive true comfort until God’s mercy was assured. And indeed, the Lord revealed His response through the angel:
👉🏾 “Therefore thus says the Lord: I will return to Jerusalem with mercy; my house will be built in it, and a line will be stretched out over Jerusalem,” says the Lord of hosts. “And you shall say, ‘Thus says the Lord of hosts: My cities shall again be satisfied with good; and the Lord will again comfort Zion and choose Jerusalem.’” (Zechariah 1:16–17)
The angel’s role was to convey God’s message to the people: “Proclaim this: ‘Thus says the Lord of hosts…’”
Therefore, in the Orthodox Tewahedo understanding, the holy angels are truly our intercessors. They carry our prayers before God, ask for mercy, and participate in the ministry of reconciliation, reminding us of God’s loving care and the unseen help that surrounds every faithful believer.
Part 15 Continues ...
May the name of the Holy God be praised forever and ever in every tongue that He has created, today and always.
May the blessings of God's mother, the virgin, and the cross be upon us.
