    The Miracle of Debre Damo

Debre Hallelujah in His Later Years Abune

Continued 👇🏾 The Miracle of Debre Damo (Debre Hallelujah) In his later years, Abune Aregawi traveled to the northern region and came upon a high, steep mountain known today as Debre Damo. He desired to build a monastery there, but there was no path to climb. By the power of God, a great dragon stretched out its tail, measuring sixty cubits long, and became a bridge for the saint. As Abune Aregawi ascended the mountain, he sang in praise: “Hallelujah to the Father, Hallelujah to the Son, Hallelujah to the Holy Spirit.” At that moment, bread descended from heaven and nourished him a sign of divine favor. Because of this miracle, the mountain was called “Debre Hallelujah.” After the righteous took that holy place with prayer, about six thousand believers came from different regions to live under his spiritual guidance and receive blessing from his holy teaching. For his great labor in spreading the word of God and establishing the order of monastic life, Abune Aregawi is honored with the title: 👉🏾 “The Father of Ethiopian Monks.” In addition to his lifelong spiritual struggle, he worked diligently in evangelism, teaching, and the preparation of holy books for the strengthening of the faithful. His Companions in Holiness Among his beloved companions were Saint Yared, the inspired composer of sacred hymns, and Emperor Gebre Meskel, the righteous ruler who loved the Church. Together, they built the Monastery of Kidane Mehret at the foot of Debre Damo for the spiritual service of women. The first nun of that holy monastery was Queen Edna, the mother of Abune Aregawi, who dedicated her life to prayer and purity. His Peaceful Departure and Covenant The righteous one, having completed his pure life, was hidden in the eastern part of the monastery on this day, at the age of ninety-nine, and entered the world of the living. Before his departure, the Lord granted him a holy covenant of mercy that would endure for fifteen generations, blessing and protecting all who remember him in faith and call upon his name with reverence. May the name of the Holy God be praised forever and ever in every tongue that He has created, today and always. May the blessings of God's mother, the virgin, and the cross be upon us. Amen. © John's Repentance Reach out to us on our social media platforms and share it with your friends:https://linktr.ee/johnsrepentance
