👉🏾👉🏾👉🏾Why is the #Intercession of the #Saints Necessary?
(Part 4)
Beloved brothers and sisters in Christ,
we greet you in the name of our Lord and Savior, who has called us to holiness and to the fellowship of His saints. Today, with hearts full of faith, we continue our reflection on the sacred mystery of the intercession of the saints, learning why God reveals His divine will to His chosen friends and how their prayers become a light for the world.
The Necessity of Intercession
✍🏾 The intercession of the saints is necessary because through them our prayers reach God more quickly. The saints are God’s beloved friends, and our Creator accepts their prayers with special favor especially the prayers of His holy Mother, the Virgin Mary. Through their prayers, God acts with mercy, heals our troubles, and grants relief to His people.
The Holy Scriptures testify that the prayers of the righteous are far more acceptable than the prayers of the wicked:
“The eyes of the Lord are upon the righteous, and His ears are open unto their cry.”
(Psalm 33:13–20; Proverbs 10:24)
The Power of the Saints’ Prayers
✍🏾 The prayers of the saints are pleasing to God because their hearts are pure. They have cleansed themselves from hatred, revenge, and sin. They do not ask for things contrary to God’s will but pray with full faith, trusting that He will hear them.
The Scriptures explain this truth clearly:
“The desire of the righteous is only good, but the expectation of the wicked is destruction.”
(Proverbs 11:23)
“The thoughts of the righteous are right, but the counsel of the wicked is deceit.”
(Proverbs 12:5)
When the mother of Zebedee’s sons came to the Lord asking that her sons might sit at His right and left hand in His Kingdom, Jesus answered,
“You do not know what you are asking.”
(Matthew 20:20–22)
And He also said,
“Whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.”
(Mark 11:24)
Joy in Heaven over Intercession and Repentance
✍🏾 The saints and holy angels rejoice greatly whenever sinners receive forgiveness. When God’s beloved Mother and His holy friends plead for mercy on behalf of sinners, the Lord gladly hears and answers their prayers in order to honor them.
“There will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who need no repentance... there is joy before the angels of God over one sinner who repents.”
(Luke 15:7, 10)
“Whatever you ask the Father in My name, He will give it to you... Ask and you will receive, that your joy may be full.”
(John 16:23–24)
Intercession as a Divine Honor
✍🏾 The intercession of the saints is not a limitation of God’s glory but a revelation of His mercy and honor toward His faithful servants. God Himself has, at times, led humanity through the intercession of His chosen ones. Before bringing judgment upon people, He often revealed His will to His friends, such as:
👉🏾The coming flood revealed to Noah
👉🏾The destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah revealed to Abraham
👉🏾The sin of Nineveh revealed to Jonah
👉🏾The captivity and destruction of Israel revealed to the prophets
Why God Reveals His Will to the Saints
✍🏾 God reveals these mysteries to His saints for several holy reasons:
1. To teach and counsel the people—turning them from active sin to active righteousness, from idolatry to the true worship of God through repentance, and to rebuke and discipline the disobedient with the divine authority granted to them (Deuteronomy 14:27; Acts 5:5).
2. To intercede for the people’s sins—pleading for God’s mercy and appealing for His patience in the face of His righteous wrath.
3. To be living examples of holiness—not only through their words and teachings but also by shining as lights in a darkened world through the purity and faithfulness of their lives.
