The Cross in Ethiopia
Ethiopia too, shares in the sacred history of the light of the Holy Cross. The cross was brought to Ethiopia during the reign of Emperor Dawit , together with the holy relics of our Lord His divine crown, the Saint Luke icon's of Our Lady. This sacred event is commemorated on Meskerem 10 , the day on which the Feast of the Holy Cross is joyfully celebrated in our Church. (History of the Ethiopian Church, Abune Gregory II)
Reflection on the Love of the Cross
As we have seen above, those who truly understood the love of the cross such as Saint Eleni embraced it with deep faith and sacrifice. She sought it not for her own glory, but for the glory of God and for the strengthening of the faithful. Through six long months of tireless searching, prayer, and devotion, she uncovered the hidden cross and revealed it to the world, leaving it as a precious gift for all generations to rejoice in.
We, too, must embrace this love. Christianity demands sacrifice, prayer, and steadfast devotion. We are called to honor the cross and follow Christ with our whole heart.
Saint Paul warns us:
"Men, before whose eyes our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ was clearly set forth, crucified. Who has bewitched you to disobey the truth?" (Galatians 3:1)
Let this admonition pierce our hearts. Are we truly faithful to the cross, or do the cares of the world divert our attention?
Conclusion: Abiding in the Kingdom
May God, in His mercy, grant us understanding of the meaning and love of the cross. Let us receive it with reverence, abide in His house, and inherit His eternal kingdom. The cross is not merely wood or a symbol; it is the source of salvation, the treasure of the faithful, and the path to eternal joy.
Rejoice, beloved, in the cross, for through it we are redeemed, sanctified, and called into eternal fellowship with Christ. Amen.
Part 12 Continues ...
May the name of the Holy God be praised forever and ever in every tongue that He has created, today and always.
May the blessings of God's mother, the virgin, and the cross be upon us.
Amen.
