The Ancient Witness of the Fathers
The holy Fathers also recorded that once in every 600 years, the month of Pagumen contains 7 days. For just as the world is renewed in cycles, so also does the calendar reveal the hidden harmony of creation.
Why is this so? Because in every day of 24 hours, there is an excess of 0.4 seconds. Over centuries, these seconds accumulate, they bring forth the seven-day Pagumen once in six hundred years.
Moreover, there is a mystical reckoning called Rina Maalt and Rina Nacht. In the Ethiopian calendar, the year is counted as 365 days, 15 latitudes, and 6 kal’it that is, 365 days, 6 hours, 2 minutes, and 24 seconds. When 2 minutes and 24 seconds are gathered together, they bring forth the seven-day Pagumen once in six hundred years.for one kal’it equals 24 seconds.
Thus:
In 5 years there are 30 kal’it.
In 10 years there are 60 kal’it.
In 100 years, 240 seconds, which equal 10 latitudes.
In 200 years, 20 latitudes.
In 300 years, 30 latitudes.
In 400 years, 40 latitudes.
In 500 years, 50 latitudes.
And in 600 years, 60 latitudes.
Sixty latitudes are equal to 1,440 minutes, or one complete day. Therefore, after 600 years, the addition of time produces the seven-day Pagumen.
Indeed, the last such month was seen in the year 1700 AD (or 7800 before borth of Christ ). The next will come in 2300 AD, after the span of 283 years.
The Mystery of Latitude and Longitude
The Fathers also taught:
Latitude is the path of light moving from north to south.
Longitude is the path of light moving from east to west.
Conclusion
Let us, therefore, lift our hearts with the Psalmist, saying:
“you hast blessed the crown of the year with Thy goodness” (Psalm 64:11).
And let us beseech our merciful God, who grants us to see a new year in our lifetime, that He may bless the coming year with peace, with health of body and soul, and with repentance, that we may be made worthy to partake of the Holy Eucharist
May the name of the Holy God be praised forever and ever in every tongue that He has created, today and always. .
May the blessings of God's mother, the virgin, and the cross be upon us.
Amen.
