It is Christ who founded the Church
Dear and respected members who follow the orthodox education and spiritual service that we convey on the John's Repentance website; This lesson prepared based on the topic is found in the book 'Hebr Serat Zebetristian Orthodox', and we have translated the lesson and made it available to you by referring to the recent challenges the Church has faced: We entrust you all to read it and gain a comprehensive understanding of the connection between the Church and religion.
1. It is Christ who founded the church
Christ founded the church on Peter's religion. Peter's religion is to believe that Christ is God, the Son of God, the Alpha and Omega, who prophesied in the past through the prophets, and who fulfilled the prophecies that God spoke by becoming a man, who is one body from two bodies, one nature from two natures, God. . In order to understand that this religion was Peter's, when the Lord asked the Council of Caesarea, "Who do people call the Son of Man?", the other disciples said what they had heard from people, that they call you Elijah, John the Baptist, one of the prophets, but the question did not end there, because the Lord answered, "Who do you say that I am?" St. Peter replied, "You are the Christ, the Son of the Living God." Matthew 16:16 John 1:41
And another time, when the Lord was teaching about the sacrament, many of the people were going back saying, "This is troubling, who can hear it?" When the Lord asked the apostles, "Would you like to go too?" Saint Peter replied, "Lord. To whom shall we go when you have the promise of eternal life? "We believe and know that you are the Christ, the Son of the living God," he testified to his religion and that of his companions. John 6:80-89
In his message, when Saint Peter himself spoke about Christ's death, he said, "He died in the flesh, but he is alive in the spirit (divinity)." 1 Pet 3:19 This is what Peter's religion means. Whoever does not believe in this religion is different from the unity of the church, which is the family of the members of the body of Christ, and is not called a follower of Peter. Therefore, the orthodox church was founded, stood firmly, and will continue forward, holding this creed of the great apostle St. Peter as its foundation. Rtu Hai page 34
John the Evangelist said this in his message, "Who is a liar but he that denies that Jesus is the Christ?" 1st John 2:22 "Whosoever believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God: and every one that loves him that begat loveth him also that is begotten of him. He said. 1 John 5:1 Therefore, a person is called a Christian when he knows the teaching of the apostles and understands their religion well, accepts it and follows it. Apart from this, a religion made arbitrarily, by chance, by one's will, by one's own philosophy and guidance does not save from judgment.
What explains that Peter's religion is correct: The Lord heard Peter's words and did not keep silent. "And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven." Matthew 16:16-17. Therefore, Peter's foundation is religion. The religion is "Only son" (The pre-world, born of a father without a mother, the after-world, born of the Virgin Mary without a father, Jesus Christ is an only child.). It is a part of the church of Christ that stands and grows on the rock of Peter. Peter's foundation is belief, and Christ's foundation is trust: "For it has been declared unto me of you, my brethren, by them which are of the house of Chloe, that there are contentions among you." 11). 1st Qor 1፥11
The #Fast of #Nineveh
Beloved and respected members who follow the orthodox education and spiritual service that we convey on John's Repentance page, we send you this writing about the feast of Naniveh written by Pope Shenouda III of the Coptic Orthodox Church because it is important to understand the story behind it and why we fast, so we can relate to the people of Naniveh, learn from them and get the blessings of this fast which is from February 6-9.
Fast of Nineveh is three days subsequent fast and repentance of the Ninevites by the warning message of the Prophet Jonah. It is known to be the fast of repentance, humility and the return to God. Thus, the Church considers this fast amongst the Great Fast; Lent and other Fasts.
The people of Nineveh fasted, wore sackcloth from the youngest to the oldest and prayed to God for forgiveness. God accepted their repentance; “God saw their works that they turned from their evil way; and God relented from the disaster that He had said He would bring upon them; and He did not do it.” (Jonah 3:10)
The story of Jonah presages the redemptive work of Lord Jesus Christ. God send Prophet Jonah to the people of Nineveh for they were Gentiles and needed repentance. “But in every nation whoever fears Him and works righteousness is accepted by Him.” (Acts 10:35)
God saved the mariners on the boat who were Gentiles through Jonah for they were men seeking the Lord. Tough, they prayed to their gods they knew the true God is the almighty. So, they asked Jonah to pray to his God. Prophet Jonah also told the mariners, “I am a servant of the Lord, and I worship the Lord God of heaven, who made the sea and the dry land.” Believing his words, they feared the Lord and offered Him sacrifices. (Jonah 1:16, 1:9-10)
Then, even after he told them to throw him in the sea; “They were endeavoring to find God’s will in order that they might carry it out. When the sea ceased its raging by their throwing Jonah into it they were assured of the presence of God in the matter. They believed in the Lord, offered Him a sacrifice and made vows. In their belief in the Lord they not only believed that He was God but by offering Him a sacrifice they professed their belief in the propitiation of blood.” (Jonah 1:13)
However, it was not the will of God for Jonah to drawn, so He prepared a great fish to swallow Jonah and uses the whale to save him. Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights praying to God. At the third day, God answered his prayers and the whale put Jonah put out on dry Land; He did not prepare it to destroy him but to preserve him.
God command Prophet Jonah again to go to Nineveh. He was first commanded to preach the Ninevites although his prophecy did not reach upon them till after the whale had emitted him out.
God saves Jonah from his pride as he was still egocentric when He caused a plant with thick leaves to grow up and shade Jonah from the sun and GOD destroyed the plant with worm. The next day, he suffered from the heat of a wind blow. Once more, with rage, Prophet Jonah wished his death and God reveals his mercy and compassion through the plant.
Prophet Jonah was preaching God’s words to spread His kingdom in Nineveh City and God willed to save Ninevites. “A greater than Jonah is here” Jonah was a figure of Lord Christ. Saint Cyril of Jerusalem says, “As Jonah was thrown to the belly of the whale, the Lord Christ went by His own will to the unseen whale of death, to coerce him to give those who were swallowed by him; as it is written, “I will ransom them from the power of the grave; I will redeem them from death.” (Matthew 12:41, Hosea 13:14)
The Ninevites were saved by the Prophet Jonah. Saint John Chrysostom said, “Nineveh freed itself from death by fasting. Like a heavenly power overseeing Nineveh’s charge, fasting snatched the city from the gates of death and returned Nineveh to Life."
