Her Glorious Resurrection and Ascension
On the sixteenth of Nehase, her Son commanded: “My Mother, arise and come to Me.” At His word, her soul and body were reunited, and she rose in glory. Angels filled the heavens, David sang: “At Your right hand stands the queen in gold” (Ps. 44:9), and the whole creation was filled with fragrance.
Saints Tsige Dengel and Gebre Mariam testify in Mahlete Tsige that the Virgin’s glory exceeded that of the world, and that she was carried by angels with hymns sweeter than incense. Saint Yared too sang: “Mary was taken up in glory, and the angels and archangels came to receive her.”

Even the apostle Thomas, arriving late, beheld her being borne upward in splendor. When he told the others, they opened her tomb and found it empty, Then he showed them the girdle (belt) of Mary, which she had given him as a sign. And the apostles, seeing this miracle, fell down in worship, glorifying God for the bodily assumption of the Ever-Virgin Mary into paradise. For this reason, the Church venerates the holy girdle(Seben) as a memorial of her translation.
Scriptural Prophecies Fulfilled
The prophets foretold her glory:
“Arise, O Lord, into Your resting place, You and the Ark of Your strength” (Ps. 131:8).
“Who is this that comes up from the wilderness like pillars of smoke, perfumed with myrrh and frankincense?” (Song of Songs 3:6).
“At Your right hand stands the queen arrayed in gold” (Ps. 44:9).
Saint John the Theologian bore witness: “The temple of God was opened in heaven, and the ark of His covenant was seen” (Rev. 11:19). He also saw “a woman clothed with the sun, the moon under her feet, and on her head a crown of twelve stars” (Rev. 12:1).
Thus the Scriptures proclaim that the Virgin, untouched by corruption and sin, was raised by her Son in glory. As death entered by Eve, so life and incorruption were revealed in Mary, the new Eve.
Conclusion
Therefore, beloved, let us lift our hearts in thanksgiving. For today we celebrate the mystery of mysteries the Assumption of our Lady, the Mother of God. She who bore the Lord of Glory now intercedes for us at His right hand. Let us rejoice, not as those who mourn, but as those who have gained a Mother in heaven, radiant and powerful, the refuge of sinners, the joy of the righteous, the Queen clothed with the sun.
May her intercession overshadow us, may her prayers guard the Church, and may we, through her maternal love, be brought at last into the kingdom of her Son.
May the name of the Holy God be praised forever and ever in every tongue that He has created, today and always.
May the blessings of God's mother, the virgin, and the cross be upon us.
Amen.
