The Fire of Love in Prayer
Prayer is the flame of love between man and God. The one who loves does not tire of conversation with his beloved. Even if night falls and day rises again, still he lingers in the presence of his Friend. So it was with the saints: their minds were always bound to God, whether in solitude or among crowds. In silence they conversed with Him; in company they remembered Him.
Their hearts burned like a hidden censer, unceasingly rising in prayer as naturally as breath itself. Thus did Saint Gregory teach us: that a Christian ought to think of God even more than he breathes.
Conclusion
Beloved brethren, to pray with tears is to let the soul itself become a sacrifice, poured out in humility before the God who is near. It is to cast aside pride, anger, and earthly desires, and to taste the sweetness of His goodness. It is to live as one who always longs for God, never tiring of His presence, never weary of His love. Let us then learn to pray in this way, not with empty words, but with broken hearts, with tears of repentance, with trust in His will. For such prayer pierces the heavens and brings down mercy upon us.
May the name of the Holy God be praised forever and ever in every tongue that He has created, today and always.
May the blessings of God's mother, the virgin, and the cross be upon us.
Amen.
