You bore Him who is the pillar of fire, the ladder seen by Jacob, the star foretold by Balaam (Num. 24:17), the King announced by the Magi. To Eve it was said, “In pain you shall bear children,” but to you the angel said, “Rejoice!” (Lk. 1:28). You brought forth not a murderer as Eve did, but the Life of the world. St. Irenaeus testifies that as one virgin’s disobedience brought death, so another virgin’s obedience brought life.
Therefore, O full of grace, we echo the angel’s greeting: “Blessed are you among women!” And we beg you do not cease to intercede with your Son, that we may share in His grace and glory, now and unto ages of ages.
May the name of the Holy God be praised forever and ever in every tongue that He has created, today and always.
May the blessings of God's mother, the virgin, and the cross be upon us.
