Where the Head Is, There the Body Will Follow
If the Head has ascended, shall not the body also ascend? If Christ is in heaven, shall His Church remain forever on earth? No! His Ascension is not departure but invitation. It is not absence but exaltation. As the Apostle again instructs us:
“If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God.” (Col. 3:1)
Beloved, you have died with Christ in baptism. Your true life is hidden with Him in God. Therefore, why do you live as if bound to the earth? Why do you cling to the dust when your King calls you upward? Let your heart ascend where your hope already reigns.
The Promise of the Comforter
Before His glorious Ascension, the Lord gave a promise, a pledge to His beloved disciples:
“It is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Comforter will not come to you.” (John 16:7)
“The Comforter, the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in My name, will teach you all things.” (John 14:6)
“Behold, I send the promise of My Father upon you...” (Luke 24:49)
By ascending, He did not abandon His Church but filled it with the Spirit of God. The disciples, gazing into the clouds, were not left in mourning but in hope. For on the fiftieth day, on the glorious Pentecost, the Comforter descended, and the Church was born in power.
Let Us Also Ascend in Spirit
What, then, shall we do, brethren? Shall we look merely at the past and not live in the light of this glory? God forbid! We must also lift our eyes to heaven, raise our minds from earthly passions, and seek the life above. As Christ is ascended, let us ascend with Him. As He reigns in glory, let us yearn for that glory. Let our hearts rise on wings of love and prayer, and let our deeds reflect the heavenly citizenship to which we are called.
Let the Ascension not be a feast of memory only, but a feast of transformation. Let it stir in us longing, repentance, purity, and thanksgiving, until we too are counted worthy to ascend and reign with Him.
May the name of the Holy God be praised forever and ever in every tongue that He has created, today and always.
May the blessings of God's mother, the virgin, and the cross be upon us.
Amen.
