Continued 👆🏽 Through Peter, miracles abounded, and Christ entrusted him the keys of the kingdom, saying: "Whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven." (Matthew 16:19) Thus, the sacred authority of binding and loosing the sacramental power of forgiveness and discipline  was established in the priesthood. The Ministry and Martyrdom of Saint Peter Peter traveled throughout Asia Minor, teaching, shepherding, and writing two epistles that shine with apostolic wisdom. His teachings are preserved in the Acts of the Apostles and through his exhortations to perseverance amidst trials. At last, he journeyed to Rome, the seat of earthly power, to preach against idolatry and proclaim Christ crucified and risen. There, under the bloody reign of Emperor Nero, Peter embraced the crown of martyrdom around A.D. 67. Fearful are we today to speak truth against rulers and the rich, but Peter and the holy martyrs like Elijah and John the Baptist feared not the wrath of kings nor the flames of persecution. Saint Paul — Another Mighty Witness In like manner, Saint Paul, born in Tarsus of Cilicia, a Hebrew of the tribe of Benjamin, was prepared by God for his apostolic labor. Educated in the Law under Gamaliel, a master of Scripture, Paul knew the customs of Jews and Gentiles alike. A tent-maker by trade, he combined spiritual wisdom with the labor of his hands. May the name of the Holy God be praised forever and ever in every tongue that He has created, today and always. May the blessings of God's mother, the virgin, and the cross be upon us. Amen. © John's Repentance Reach out to us on our social media platforms and share it with your friends: https://linktr.ee/johnsrepentance
