Clement writes: “Five and a half days after creation, the Son of God will be born of Adam’s children and save him.” On this Thursday, we declare that the promise is fulfilled: the Word became flesh through the Virgin Mary, entered creation, tasted death, and rose again.
Adam who heard the voice of the Lord in the garden“Adam, Adam, where are you?” has now heard another voice: “Come forth, Adam, for I have saved you.” The same Jesus who descended into Hades stretched forth His hand to our first father and lifted him from the prison of death.
V. The Fall and Restoration of Man
Adam lived 930 years and died on April 6, and from his loins came both righteous Abel and wicked Cain. From him came all mankind both saints and sinners. And though he was cast out of Paradise after seven years, the Lord’s word was not void: “Be fruitful and multiply.”
This multiplication brought forth the Virgin, and from her, the Redeemer. He took flesh and soul from her body yes, perfect God became perfect Man and in doing so, He fulfilled the covenant He made with Adam. He overcame death by death and lifted humanity with Him in the resurrection.
“I have not come to abolish the Law or the Prophets, but to fulfill them.” (Matthew 5:17) All the words of the prophets, all the laws given through Moses, found their “Yes” and “Amen” in Christ. His resurrection is not only victory, but verification it proves the faith we hold.
VI. Our Faith is Not in Vain
St. Paul declares: “If Christ is not risen, then our preaching is in vain, and your faith is in vain.” (1 Cor. 15:13) But He is risen! Adam is freed! The promise is kept! This is why Adam Thursday is not a memorial of failure but of redemption. We look back to the first man not in sorrow, but in triumph for from him came our Savior in the flesh.
Let us praise the God of truth, who never forgets His promises. Let us glorify the Virgin Mary, who became the Ark of our salvation. Let us lift up the Cross, for it is by it that Adam was raised.
Conclusion
Brethren, this is Adam Thursday a day when we remember not just a man, but the mystery of our own redemption. Let it not pass us by lightly. Let us bow our heads and give thanks to God, who saw our worth even in our fall, and lifted us through His Son.
Let us walk as those who have been freed, and remember Adam, not as one who fell, but as one who was redeemed.
May the name of the Holy God be praised forever and ever in every tongue that He has created, today and always.
May the blessings of God's mother, the virgin, and the cross be upon us.
Amen.
