For 5500 years, Adam and all his children groaned in the bonds of death. They sat in the valley of the shadow, waiting for the One who would come to lift them up. And lo! In the dawn of the Resurrection, the voice of the Bridegroom shattered the silence of Sheol. Souls that had long slept in sorrow were awakened to joy, for they passed over from hell to heaven, from bondage to freedom, from death to eternal life.
This, my beloved, is the true Maedot not of one people only, but of the entire race of man. It is the day when Christ trampled down death by death, and life upon those in the tombs.
Why Do We Celebrate Maedot?
This Monday, which follows the bright and holy Resurrection Sunday, is called Maedot to remind us of this eternal transition. It is not a day of mere history, but a living remembrance of our spiritual crossing over. It is a Feast of the Annunciation, a declaration that:
Hell has lost its prisoners,
Death has lost its sting,
And Satan has lost his dominion.
It is a trumpet blast of victory, a holy echo of Christ’s triumph ringing through time.
“For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved by His life!” (Romans 5:10)
Therefore, let every soul take heed, and let every heart rejoice. Let us not return to Egypt by our sins, nor turn back to bondage through forgetfulness. For we have been ransomed not with silver or gold, but with the precious blood of Christ, the Lamb without blemish.
Let all who have ears, hear. Let all who hunger, eat of this rich teaching. And let us go forth not as slaves of fear, but as sons and daughters of the Resurrection.
Christ is Risen! He is truly Risen!
May the name of the Holy God be praised forever and ever in every tongue that He has created, today and always.
May the blessings of God's mother, the virgin, and the cross be upon us.
Amen.
