They stripped Him of His beard—an act of humiliation—and then, in cruel mockery, whipped Him. Not once. Not twice. But 6,666 times. So violent were their stripes that His flesh fell away and His bones shone white as snow. They did not count in mercy, but in contempt. They whipped Him in turns, one after another, until His body was broken, and He collapsed to the earth.
The Glorious Mystery of Redemption
Yet in all this, our Lord did not open His mouth in protest. Like a sheep before its shearers, He was silent. In every wound, He purchased our healing. In every drop of blood, He inscribed our redemption.
Beloved, let us not pass over these mysteries with idle thoughts. Let us behold the measure of our sin, and more so, the measure of His love. Let our hearts be pierced with contrition as His body was pierced with nails. Let us weep—not merely in grief, but in gratitude.
Conclusion: A Call to Reverence and Devotion
On this holy day, let us not merely commemorate; let us consecrate our hearts anew. Let the Cross not be to us a symbol only, but a throne of grace. Let the suffering of our Lord awaken us from the slumber of sin. And let the victory of His resurrection, which follows this sacred agony, stir in us a hope that will never die.
May the name of the Holy God be praised forever and ever in every tongue that He has created, today and always.
May the blessings of God's mother, the virgin, and the cross be upon us.
Amen.
