This is the month of fasting, a season when we seek holiness with renewed fervor, when we strive more earnestly toward God, and when we begin every good work with the purity of heart that alone is worthy of Him.
As the prophet exhorts us:
"Sanctify a fast and proclaim the assembly," for the grace given to us is in our hands, and we must not squander it.
4. It is the fulfillment of the Gospel commandment
The holiness of this time is not merely the tradition of men but the very command of God. The Psalmist proclaims:
"This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it." (Psalm 117:24)
And the beloved disciple, Saint John, testifies in his divine vision:
"I was in the Spirit on the Lord’s day." (Revelation 1:10)
The wisdom of the Church, entrusted to us by the saints, teaches us:
"Gather together in church every day, especially on Sundays, Holy Days, and Holy Weeks." (The Book of Justice, p. 254)
What does this mean for us? That we must not neglect the gathering of the faithful. The church is our refuge, our ark of salvation, the house of prayer where God dwells among His people. Especially in this sacred season, let no one be found absent from the assembly of believers.
Conclusion: A Call to Holiness
Let us, then, take heed of this sacred calling. This is the time appointed for holiness. Let us fast with sincerity, pray with fervor, give alms with generosity, and seek God with all our hearts. For the Lord, in His goodness, has opened to us the path of repentance, that we may inherit His heavenly kingdom.
May the name of the Holy God be praised forever and ever in every tongue that He has created, today and always.
May the blessings of God's mother, the virgin, and the cross be upon us.
Amen.
