About #male wearing #netela and getting priority in partaking from the #Eucharist Question፦ Selam, I am looking to understand the reason why the male followers wear a netela to the church ? 2. During Holy Communion -why male get the priority ? Thank you for answering. Answer፦ May the peace of the Lord be with you! Your curiosity about the traditions of our ancient faith is commendable. Let us delve into the richness of our heritage together. Regarding the netela: The white shawl worn by men in our churches, particularly during prayer, symbolizes a few key principles. Firstly, it represents purity and humility before God, echoing the words of Isaiah 61:10, "He has clothed me with garments of salvation; He has covered me with the robe of righteousness." Just as a bride adorns herself in white for her groom, we present ourselves before God adorned in spiritual purity. Secondly, the act of covering one's head during prayer finds its roots in 1 Corinthians 11:4, "Every man praying or prophesying, having his head covered, dishonors his head." While interpretations of this passage vary, within our tradition, it emphasizes the importance of approaching God with reverence and respect. Concerning Holy Communion: The order in which the faithful receive Holy Communion is not a matter of "priority" but rather one of sacred order established through centuries of liturgical practice. Historically, this order mirrored the societal structure of the early Church, where men often held leadership roles. However, this order should never be interpreted as implying any difference in worthiness or spiritual standing before God. Remember, my child, we are all equal in the eyes of God, washed clean by the blood of Christ. Galatians 3:28 reminds us, "There is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus." Focus your heart on the unifying love of Christ, the true essence of Holy Communion. May the Holy Spirit guide you on your spiritual journey. Feel free to ask if you have more questions. Please remember, my son, I am here to offer guidance based on the teachings of our Church. For definitive answers regarding your specific parish practices, it is always best to consult with your priest or spiritual father. May the name of the Holy God be praised forever and ever in every tongue that He has created, today and always. May the blessings of God's mother, the virgin, and the cross be upon us.
