As for his suffering, the tortures that were applied to St. George are too numerous to mention in depth, but it is worth noting his utmost love for Christ. His body was torn by a special instrument that had metallic teeth, and our Lord Jesus rose him after his death, leading to the conversion of many pagans. He was put in active lime, and water was poured on it. Again the Lord returned him back to life. The Emperor became very agitated, imagining that the Saint was using magic. He called his top magician, Athanasius, and requested him to prepare a lethal poison to kill St. George.
The Saint signed over the cup with the sign of the cross before drinking it, and of course, no harm came to him. The Emperor's counselors informed him that St. George's magic was, in fact, contained in the sign of the Cross itself. Another cup was also given to the Saint, but this time with his hands tied behind his back. The Saint signed it by his head, saying: "shall I drink it from here or here or here or here!!!"
As St. George stood before the emperor and his court, he was given one last chance to renounce his Christian faith and offer sacrifice to the idols. The emperor promised him great rewards, honors, and privileges if he would do so. But St. George refused, declaring that he would never deny his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
In a final act of defiance, the emperor ordered St. George to be beheaded. The saint willingly accepted his fate and went to his death with courage and grace. He is said to have uttered a prayer to God, thanking Him for the privilege of dying for the faith.
After his martyrdom, St. George's reputation as a courageous and holy man quickly spread throughout the Christian world. Churches were built in his honor, and his feast day was celebrated on April 23rd. He became known as the patron saint of soldiers, knights, and all who defend the faith.
Today, the legend of St. George and the dragon is still celebrated in many cultures around the world. It has become a symbol of strength, courage, and the triumph of good over evil. The story of St. George reminds us that even in the face of persecution and adversity, we can remain steadfast in our faith and trust in God's love and mercy.
May the name of the Holy God be praised forever and ever in every language that He has created, today and always.
May the blessings of the Holy Mother of God, the Virgin, and the Cross be upon us. Amen.
