The Power of #Fasting
(Part 3)
In his essay on Fasting and Almsgiving, the scholar explains: "Fasting purifies the soul, elevates the mind, subjugates our body to our soul, causes repentance and humility in the heart, dispels the clouds of desire for adultery, extinguishes the fire of lust, ignites the true light of purity, and allows God to enter us again."
The scholar emphasizes the blessings and power of fasting. Therefore, we cannot fully understand fasting without experiencing it. If we develop a love for fasting, as the true believers call it, we will never let it go.
Respecting and sanctifying fasting is a manifestation of the Christian journey. Father Jerome also says: "Fasting is not only the perfection of goodness, but the foundation of all good things. Fasting embodies the virtues of holiness, purity, and prudence. Without fasting, no one can see God." Fasting is considered great because it is the womb of kindness where all goodness is born. Although the book says that only the pure in heart will see God, we should not forget that fasting is the source of purity of heart. A person who truly fasts, who does not succumb to diabolical temptations, carefully examines good deeds, understands them, and performs them. Through pure fasting, which is loved by God, we can achieve good deeds without pretending or hypocrisy.
Therefore, if we apply fasting to gain spiritual power, we should refrain from taking and selling other people's money, from violence and aggression, from greed and indulgence, from laughing at the expense of others, and from all evil deeds such as deceit, resentment, anger, lies, and backbiting.
If our heart (our mind) is in conflict with other organs, we cannot do evil to them because the heart is the king of all organs. Therefore, if we do not follow the scholar's teachings on fasting, we will not be able to gain the power of fasting and make it our own. Let us strive diligently to follow the scholar's teachings.
May the name of the Holy God be praised forever and ever in every language that He has created, today and always.
May the blessings of the Holy Mother of God, the Virgin, and the Cross be upon us. Amen.
