In contrast, a secular marriage lacks the spiritual dimensions present in a sacramental marriage. In a secular system, the union may be regarded solely as a legal contract, devoid of the sacredness and blessings that come with celebrating Christ's presence. The profound mystery of the bridegroom and bride becoming one is not fully realized, so the couple misses out on the blessings and grace that could have been received through the sacramental marriage.
However, acknowledging that "My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge" (Hosea 4:6), those who unknowingly or knowingly entered into a secular marriage can repent and seek unity in the Holy Communion, commencing a righteous journey for the remainder of their days.
In summary, the purpose of marriage encompasses mutual support, procreation, and protection against adultery. The sacramental nature of marriage, conducted within the Church, signifies the union of the bridegroom and bride, mirroring the unity of Christ and the Church. The sacramental marriage, where the couple and God are active participants, enables the Lord Jesus Christ to be the focal point of their spiritual journey. In contrast, secular marriages lack the spiritual dimensions present in sacramental marriages and miss out on the blessings and grace bestowed upon couples who enter into a holy union.
May the name of the Holy God be praised forever and ever in every tongue that He has created.
May the blessings of God's mother, the virgin, and the cross be upon us. Amen.
