The biggest and most gravious temptation of the devil is to make us give up. But we Christians never give up. Let us recall a story of a monk: There was a father who repeatedly sinned and repeatedly confessed. Then the devil said to him: "Are you not ashamed? Everyday you sin and everyday you confess it, you go to your spiritual father and confess the sin knowing you will fall tomorrow as well." Then this father said to him: "You that have no repentance, you that do not wish to be reconciled with God, you be ashamed but how can I be ashamed since repentance was established for me". Truly, repentance was established for us so we shouldn't give up.
The devil makes sin seem trivial for those who haven't previously fallen into it by showing them people who have fallen into sin and saying: "what consequences did they have to face for their sins? Your sins are nothing compared to their sins, you have not done anything wrong" Then he teaches us to sin step by step making us immune and ignorant to the consequences of it.
Then once we have fallen deep into it, he says: "Look at you, do you think God is going to forgive you? Are you not ashamed to approach God with all these sins? Are you not ashamed to go to a prist and admit to all these sins? You shameful being!" To make us think that God doesn't forgive, painting him as cruel.
Hence we should understand that this is the devil's trap and get up when we fall, never give up. We have the hope to inherit our Lord's Kingdom, which is eternal and absolute. Hence how can we give up? We don't! God died for us, it is for us that he gave his Holy Blood and his Holy Flesh, it is for us that he gave his mother the Virgin Mary. Hence we don't give up.
May the name of the Holy God be praised forever and ever in every tongue that He has created, today and always.
May the blessings of God's mother, the virgin, and the cross be upon us. Amen.
